I first was introduced to using Essential oils to treat Caleb’s asthma. When he was 3 his asthma got really bad. By the time he was 5 he had been to the ER over 8 times, had 2 ambulance rides, and been hospitalized for 4 days. I was so tired of feeling like he was always sick and there wasn’t a whole lot I could do about it. I hated giving him the steroids to get his breathing under control. I couldn’t believe how much they changed his behavior!
Pam gave me the oil blend Breathe to try on him regularly and it helped so much. Since then I have found other oils that help and when I use them preventatively they make a huge difference. I also step it up quite a bit as soon as I see him getting sick! Here are the oils that have helped Caleb:
Breathe: This is the oil I use the most for sure. During the winter I diffuse it at night and rub on his feet before he goes to bed. When he is sick I rub it on his chest after he gets out if the shower and at night too.
Eucalyptus: I use this the way you would use Vapor Rub. I rub it on his chest when he is congested. I also rub it on his feet and put socks over them when he goes to sleep. I add this to the diffuser when he is sick too.
Frankincense: This has anti-inflammatory effect so I rub this on his chest when he is having an asthma attack. I also will rub some into my hand and then lightly cup it over his mouth and nose and let him breath it in.
Oregano, Melaleuca, & Lemon: I use these when he is sick. Anytime Caleb gets a simple cold he has problems with his breathing. I use these oils to help his body fight off the virus or infection faster. I rub them on his feet or give him a capsule with all three inside and he swallows it. Oregano is a hot oil, so the only place I rub it on undiluted is the bottom of his feet, anywhere else I dilute it with fractionated coconut oil.
On Guard: This is my preventative oil. I diffuse it often during the winter and often times put it on his feet when he is leaving for school.
I wish I could say that we are completely medicine free, we are not. But, I have significantly been able to cut down on the medication he is using. I hated giving him steroids, so that to me is the best news. In fact, I don’t think he has had to take Prednisone since I started using the oils – Hallelujah!
Bonus – he likes the oils. He enjoys the time when I am in rubbing his feet at night which relaxes him and helps him fall asleep (which is a whole other post because my boy doesn’t sleep!) Because of the success I saw with his asthma I started using oils regularly. It does take a little more time and diligence to stay on top of using the oils, but for me it is so worth it to use something natural in place of the medication.
Have a great weekend!
